The Northern Virginia Folklife Archive (NVFA) was founded in 1977 by Professor Margaret Yocom, Emerita. NVFA includes over 1,200 papers about folklore and folklife in Northern Virginia, the Mid-Atlantic region, and beyond. The collection includes stories about ghosts, local characters, workers in regional industries, and family members, as well as collections on ethnic and regional foodways, traditional art, folk medicine, all gathered by students in the folklore classes at Mason.
The Folklore Program employs archivists who are adding material to the NVFA every day. You can search the collection here.
