The Folklore Studies Program is pleased to announce that Dr. Lisa Gilman will join the faculty in fall 2018. Dr. Gilman will lead the program's Public Humanities initiatives and build connections with public folklore institutions in Virginia, D.C. and Maryland.

Dr. Gilman is the author three books, including My Music, My War: The Listening Habits of U.S. Troops in Iraq and Afghanistan (Wesleyan Press, 2016). She also produced and directed Grounds for Resistance, a documentary film about the veteran-run anti-war coffee house, Coffee Strong.

Dr. Gilman was a professor at the University Oregon, where she was the past director of the Folklore Program and was instrumental in bringing the statewide public sector organization, the Oregon Folklife Network, to campus.

"We feel fortunate to have Dr. Gilman joining our Folklore Studies Program," said English Department Chair and Folklorist, Debra Lattanzi Shutika. "Her outstanding research experience and work with public folklore institutions will make her an invaluable resource to our students, and her ability to build partnerships with public folklife programs will be a major asset to the future of the program."
